We wanted to share this amazing photo of a rescued little pipistrelle, although unfortunately a broken wing meant the bat had to be put to sleep. If you do find a bat that is on the ground, on an outside wall or in an exposed area, especially during the day, it is probably in need of help. You should contain it in a box and then call the Bat Conservation Trust on 0345 1300 228 for further advice. Follow the Trust’s brilliant guidelines on how to contain a bat safely at: http://www.bats.org.uk/pages/containingabat.html.
Try to avoid handling the bat, but if it is necessary, it is very important that you wear gloves, as without doing so, you run the potential (but small) risk of contracting a type of rabies.
