Many of you will know that as it’s our 10th birthday this weekend, we’ve been giving out a special birthday treat to pets visiting 387 Vets all week: special bone-shaped homemade biscuits for dogs, cheesy homemade cat-shaped biscuits for cats, and for rabbits, fruit-inspired wooden nibble sticks (though these are not homemade!).
The dog bones have gone down so well (some haven’t even made it out of the waiting room!) that we’ve had several requests to share the recipe on Facebook. So, here it is!
When you see the ingredients, you’ll understand why dogs love them so much!
Peanut Butter and Apple Sauce Dog Cookies
INGREDIENTS
3 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups quick-cook oats
1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky, your choice!)
1 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1 tsp baking powder
2 eggs
Vegetable oil, optional
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and cover 2 baking sheets with grease-proof paper.
In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients well.
Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface. If the dough is too loose and crumbly, add a dash of the oil to bind ingredients
Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters, or make dough balls. Place cookies on baking sheet, approximately 1/2 inch apart.
Bake in preheated over for approximately 20 minutes or until lightly browned.
Let cool and then serve.
The recipe says biscuits can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. Jo and Rachel – who made the biscuits and tested them out on their own dogs – found they were too tasty to last that long!
Here are 387 visitors Beau and Lucy enjoying theirs 🙂
With thanks to ‘The Everyday Dog Mom’ website for the recipe inspiration.
We’ll share the cat biscuit recipe tomorrow!
