As with humans, dogs can be allergic to a number of allergens in the environment. With pets staying in more over the Winter months, house dust mites can cause noticeable irritation at this time of year, but there are lots of other triggers that can lead to our pets feeling ultra itchy and scratchy, which can be upsetting to watch as well as distressing for our pets.
Signs that your dog could be suffering from an allergic skin condition include:
- Excessive scratching
- Red itchy skin which may be damaged, raw and even bleeding
- Repeated chewing, especially at paws and around the base of the tail
- Increased head-shaking, itchy ears and recurrent ear infections
- Constant licking, often at a particular worry spot.
Any of these sound familiar? If so, do give us a ring on 01922 411755 and speak to one of our team members. Leaving an itchy skin issue may only exacerbate it, as repeated scratching and worrying away at itchy areas can lead to skin damage and infection which only perpetuates the cycle.
Many problems can be resolved quickly providing welcome relief. In more complex cases, we can treat itchy skin while we diagnose the underlying problem to provide a more effective solution for your dog. Get in touch to ditch that itch!
