National Pet Month: Top Tip Number 10

NPM 10

It’s the last day of National Pet Month 2016! And here is the last of their top 10 tips for responsible pet ownership:

Take out pet insurance for dogs, cats, rabbits and horses to cover against unexpected veterinary fees and third party liability.

Pet insurance may seem like an unnecessary monthly outlay, but ultimately it’s there to give you peace of mind and the freedom to choose the best vet care options should your pet need emergency care or long term treatment.

Be mindful that not all providers and policies offer the same level of cover. Do your research so you know exactly what your prospective policy will cover. A few questions to consider: Does the policy offer cover for life for a condition or for 12 months only? Is there a cover limit? Are pre-existing conditions included or excluded? What is the excess? Does the policy premium load (i.e. if you claim will your premium increase?) Is the company reputable?

Top tip…

ALWAYS read the small print before taking on a policy to avoid any nasty surprises should you need to make a claim.
