This is a picture of an accumulation of excrement (known as a faecolith) removed from a rabbit with a very mucky back end today. It’s really important to keep rabbits – and their hutch environment – clean, especially during the warmer summer months. Flies can be attracted to mucky back ends, lay eggs and when the eggs hatch, the maggots feed on the rabbit. This is known as ‘fly strike’ and is incredibly painful, can cause extensive damage and even death.
