A huge thank you to all those doggy heroes who came into practice on Saturday under the threat of Storm Ciara to give blood. This is Maddie who received a special badge for her 10th successful Pet Blood Bank UK session. Every unit of blood donated can help save up to 4 dogs’ lives, so Maddie’s donations could have helped save up to 40 of our four-legged friends! Amazing!
Pet Blood Bank UK always looking for new donors. Like people, dogs have different blood types, and the two groups Pet Blood Bank test for are DEA 1 Positive and DEA 1 Negative. DEA 1 Negative can be given to any dog in an emergency, so Pet Blood Bank are particularly keen to register breeds that are more likely to have this type. These include: Airedale Terriers, American Bulldogs, Border Collies, Boxers, Dobermans, Dogue de Bordeaux, English Bull Terriers, Flat Coated Retrievers, German Shepherds, Greyhounds, Lurchers, Old English Sheepdogs, Pointers and Weimaraners.
