This is three year old Shih tzu Dolcie who came in for a routine bitch spay.  However, on commencing surgery, her womb turned out to be all but normal.  The womb is normally divided into two horns which extend up to the ovaries.  Dolcie had two ovaries, but only one horn – the left hand side of her womb was completely missing.  It’s such an unusual occurrence that Hamish has never seen this before in over 15 years in practice.  We do have a photo of Dolcie’s ovario-hysterectomy but felt it might be just a little too gory for Facebook!
