When a rescue rabbit came in to see us to be spayed, we all gathered round to have a look at the ring on bunny’s back leg which we were due to remove at the same time. It’s not something our vets had seen before so we carried out a little research and discovered that a link like this indicates a rabbit is from a pedigree breeding line, and the numbers identify the breeder and the birth year of the rabbit. If a rabbit remains at optimal weight, the ring shouldn’t cause bunny issue, but many owners choose to have them removed.
Taking the ring off wasn’t easy as it turns out the metal is really tough to cut! We tried various tools, but eventually managed to remove the tag with a hacksaw while beautiful bunny was under anaesthesia. One of our more unusual procedures at 387 Vets!
