We featured our Lead Nurse Cody on Wednesday in celebration of May’s Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month. Today it’s our student nurse Sian’s turn! Sian joined us from a local practice this January as we were really keen that she should feel settled here before embarking on her Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Diploma. She started her course at Bottle Green Training 3 weeks ago and is now on the road to Registered Veterinary Nurse Qualification! We are so excited for you!
The diploma route means students are employed by a veterinary practice for the duration of their course, normally 2.5 – 3 years, and have day release once a week to attend college. They are supported by their own clinical coach in practice and get loads of practical opportunities to apply skills and new learning on a day to day basis as they work within the practice team.
“I’ve wanted to work in a vets since the age of 10, and when I left school I started an Animal Management Diploma to get me on the ladder. I transferred onto a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) course and was then lucky enough to get a job as a VCA in a vet practice. I was there for 3 years before coming to 387 Vets on a student training placement. Placements can be really hard to find! I’m really pleased to have finally started my official vet nurse training, and already have flash cards at the ready! Everyone is really supportive and keen to help me, and I’m looking forward to the journey ahead.”
