Whilst Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) officially finished yesterday, don’t forget, our special offer on rabbit vaccinations runs until the end of this month! Get your rabbit’s annual vaccination for £35, saving £14, until 31st July!
Vaccination is vital to protect rabbits against Myxomatosis, Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease (RVHD1) and RVHD2, a newer strain of RVHD1. Unfortunately there is no cure for these diseases which are easily transmitted and most often deadly.
Myxomatosis is a virus spread by blood sucking insects such as fleas, mites or mosquitoes. Early signs a rabbit is infected include swelling around the eyes, ears and face, and swellings may later develop around a rabbit’s back end and genital area. Eating and drinking can become difficult, a high fever is common and the disease can cause blindness. Rabbits rarely recover from Myxomatosis, with death most often occurring between day 10 and 14.
RVHD1 causes a high fever, internal bleeding and liver failure and is almost always fatal. Many owners won’t know their pet rabbit has had RVHD1 until after their rabbit has died. There may be telling blood-stained fluid around rabbit’s mouth and nose. The disease can be spread by insect bite, coming into contact with other infected rabbits or being in a contaminated environment.
RVHD2 is contracted in the same way as RVHD1, and whilst having lower mortality rate, often the only sign is sudden death.
We now offer a single vaccination, giving your rabbit a year’s protection against these horrific killer diseases. Please do give us a call on 01922 411755 if your rabbit is yet to be vaccinated, or if their annual booster is due, and help keep bunny safe.
